This group was further extended to G7 when Canada join them in 1976. The seven most developed economies of that time. They all are part of western block during cold war sharing similarities like liberal democracies supporting human rights and individual freedom. They are ideology and economically on the same page to deal with oil crises and recession. 

Main objective of G7 group is to sit together and make strategies to overcome global economic crises. In 1998 they also include Russia in this group to establish G8 group. But in 2014 Russian invasion into Crimea become reason to exclude Russia from G8 group thus again converting them back to G7.

1997Asian financial crises become the main factor in establishment of G20. Currency devaluation, unemployment, riots, due to globalization countries with economic crises started effecting other countries which become reason for the establishment of G20 in 1999 comprising of 20 developed economies of the world.
